![]()
The badger is about 25 cms (or two feet) heigh, and about 60 cms long. It weighs about 5-10 kgs (12 to 24 pounds). They have short legs, a tail of about 8 cms, with a distinct white stripe down the middle of their face. The fur on their head is black (apart from the stripe), and on their body it is more grayish in colour. The badger is a member of the weasel family. Amazing Animal Fact: The badger is capable of digging faster than a person with a shovel! |
They live underground in burrows they create by digging with all four feet, using their long sharp claws to assist in the dig. They will also quite often find an empty burrow leftover from prairie dogs or ground squirrels and inhabit it. The badger eats squirrels, mice or other rodents, and will also eat insects. They usually feed at night, and during the day will rest in their burrows. They are primarily nocturnal. The female badger usually has litters of about 2-4 young during March or April. The young become self sufficient after just two or three months. Further Information on the Badger: E-mail info@canadianfauna.com to add your Badger related website. |
