![]() The Black Bear The black bear is found throughout North America. It is a medium sized bear, weighing in on average at 180 kilograms, but they can get much heavier than this. They range from about 1.4 to 1.9 metres in length. The black bear has curved claws which are very strong, and assist the bear in hunting and climbing. Did you know? They are omnivorous creatures, thus feeding on a wide variety of different food sources. These include nuts or berries, grasses or roots, ants or other insects, and they are known to take down moose calves. Did you know? The black bear is the smallest North American Bear. The Black Bear is an astonishingly alert creature, they have a very good sense of hearing and an excellent sense of smell. The bear has very few enemies as animals are afraid to attack it.
