The Pronghorn The pronghorn lives in Saskatchewan and Alberta, and also the United States. They look like similar to a deer, but are not a member of the deer family. They have a thick light brown or tan coat, a white neck or chest, white belly and inside their legs. |
The shape of their horns is also unusual. This is in fact how they became a "pronghorn", as they resemble two prongs pointing forward. In the summer, they can be solitaire or may live with small groups. In the winter, they form large herds. If there is a threat or a predator nearby, the entire herd or group will race away very quickly. Amazing Fact: They can achieve speeds of more than 100 km/ph! Not only can it achieve great speeds, it can also maintain high speeds for hours! Did you know? The pronghorn has amazing eyesight, and can view other creatures on the horizon up to 4 kms away. Did you know? The pronghorn is sometimes referred to as the prongbuck. The pronghorn will eat all kinds of shrubs, grasses, and even cacti. Amazing Fact: The pronghorn is the fastest animal in the Western Hemisphere.
